on Cultural Advocacy Day

February 18th, 2009 is Cultural Advocacy Day!

Organized by the Iowa Cultural Coalition, CAD’s purpose is to show that Iowa’s cultural organizations, whether focusing on history, the arts, sciences or humanities, are:

  • vital to Iowa’s economy
  • contribute to Iowa’s high-quality educational system
  • help attract and keep people of all ages in Iowa

It is an excellent opportunity for advocates from these organizations to personally interact with and promote Iowa’s cultural development to Iowa legislators at the State Capitol building. Numerous events are planned for the day.

Iowa Great Places is hosting a legislative breakfast on the morning of February 18, 2009 from 7:00-9:00 a.m. on the first floor, north wing of the Capitol to host and visit with state representatives.

Welcome to Great Places!

Iowa Great Places brings together the resources of State government to build capacity in communities, regions, neighborhoods, or districts that cultivate the unique and authentic qualities that make places special: engaging experiences; rich, diverse populations and cultures; a vital, creative economy; clean and accessible natural and built environments; well-designed infrastructure; and a shared attitude of optimism that welcomes new ideas, based on a diverse and inclusive cultural mosaic.”
