Coaching is one of the most innovative and exciting aspects of the Great Places process. Prospective applicants that have submitted a Letter of Intent to Submit a Proposal are assigned two coaches to assist them in the preparation of their Great Places proposal throughout the summer months. The coaches could be from any State agency. Each of the Great Places coaches is dedicated to the State of Iowa and wants to be an active part of its betterment. They enjoy working with and exploring new places in Iowa. They are eager to assist in whatever capacity possible: to ensure applicants understand the process, to offer helpful suggestions, and to offer a critical eye before a proposal is formally evaluated. The coaches truly want to see the Places they work with succeed. Our coaches often continue working with communities if they are not successful in gaining the Great Places designation in a particular year – just another example of how relationships between State agencies and local Places are established! Coaching is available all year long for communities working through or updating their visioning process and Great Places proposal. Contact Francis Boggus at 515-281-6911 or
