The Great Places Citizen Advisory Board selects the Great Places Finalists each year and recommends to the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs Director which should earn the designation. Thus, it is important that Places submitting a Great Places proposal understand the priorities of the Board when selecting new Great Places. Board consultations offer Places the opportunity for face-time with Board members to explain what is unique and authentic about their Places, describe their vision and plan, and obtain feedback from the Board. Consultations are basically informal conversations about Places’ plans and generally occur in April of each year. Each consultation is only 30 minutes, so Places must prepare beforehand the message they wish to convey and the questions they would like answered from the Board. No PowerPoint presentation are allowed; just a few handouts or posters and much dialogue! |
