Evaluation PDF Print E-mail

In the spirit of collaboration, Great Places proposals are evaluated by the 12 Citizen Advisory Board members and State employees from 12 agencies.  The 24 reviewers receive all of the proposals to review, critique, and score for one week.  At the end of that week, the reviewers come together to discuss each proposal and rescore, if necessary.  A finally ranking is then produced.  The 12-member Board then meets separately to choose that year’s Finalists.

The Board then embarks on a tour of each of the Finalists and re-evaluates their plans.  At the end of the tour, the Board makes a recommendation to the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs Director as to which Places should receive the designation.  Iowa’s Governor then announces the new Great Places the following week.

All Places submitting proposals receive feedback on their proposals to assist in their development.  Coaches and/or Great Places staff are available to assist those not designated as they continue moving forward with their plans and, hopefully, apply to Iowa Great Places in subsequent years.
