Coon Rapids is seeking to build upon the natural beauty of the Whiterock Conservancy to become the destination in western Iowa for eco-tourism and recreation. The Coon Rapids-Whiterock Great Places proposal includes opening the Conservancy to the public, creating a loop trail that connects the business district of Coon Rapids to the Whiterock Conservancy, and the restoration of native species and plant life to the Conservancy. The development of the eco-tourism business in the Coon Rapids and the creation of Corn Museum are also central elements of this Great Places proposal. New ambulance and fire truck facilities, “elder friendly” options within the community, and ongoing “green” efforts to improve the quality of life within Coon Rapids are also part of the broad, inclusive vision of the Coon Rapids-Whiterock partnership.
