The Great Places projects in Fairfield were developed to foster increased economic activity in downtown, celebrate the city’s rich heritage, and solidify Fairfield as leader in culture and the arts.  The development of a downtown streetscape plan, a business incubator to promote entrepreneurship in Fairfield, and construction of civic and conference center are all projects designed to increase the economic vitality and sustainability of the city’s downtown. A bikeway/walkway plan for Fairfield and the completion of the Jefferson County Trails system are additional projects that emphasize and promote pedestrian activity and accessibility throughout the county.  The restoration of Maasdam Barns where a world champion draught horse was sired, the creation of a Sustainable Learning & Visitors Center at the EcoVillage outside of the city, and the completion of the Vedic Observatory demonstrate Fairfield’s cultural diversity and rich agricultural heritage.
