The Great Places Projects of Appanoose County are a part of vision to revitalize the economy of this region through arts, culture, tourism, and recreation. Central to Appanoose County’s proposal is Honey Creek State Park – Iowa’s first and only “destination” state park that will be furnished with lodging, a conference center, a golf course, and recreational trails.  Additionally, the Ritz Theatre in Centerville will be renovated into a much larger performing arts center situated on the Courthouse Square – a district that has seen waves of reinvestment in public and private facilities.  Appanoose County’s proposal also includes the construction of a Family Aquatic Center, the creation of the Lelah Bradley Active Living Campus, and Rathbun Multi-Use Trail that will connect Honey Creek State Park to the Centerville town square –expanding the recreational and retail opportunities within this Great Place.
