The Great Places proposal of Davenport is a continuation of the city’s Vision Iowa projects that will redefine the role of Davenport’s nine-miles of city owned riverfront. Projects in Centennial Park include the creation of an Active Recreation Corridor with basketball courts and the creation of a “Sprayground” that features programmable water jets that serve as public art in winter months. The proposal for LeClaire Park features numerous plazas, public art, and the creation of a major civic pier that will be mirrored by a similar facility across the Mississippi River in Rock Island, Illinois. Additionally, the development of trolleys, water-taxis, and a more pedestrian-friendly environment along the riverfront and its major roadways are proposals which will enhance the quality of life and experience throughout this Great Place.
