The vision embodied by Decorah’s Great Places proposal is one which emphasizes community health and wellness through recreational facilities and local programs.  The Trout Run Trail project will connect a trout stream, state-run fish hatchery, Bow String Bridge Park and campgrounds while further advancing and enhancing the trail network throughout Winneshiek County.  Additionally, a Local Food and Fitness Initiative has been proposed to focus on bringing local foods to market in Decorah, promoting physical activity, and creating health-related educational programs for youth.  These health and recreation activities will be further supplemented by the construction of a Community Rec Center that will house many of these programs and serve as a central civic space for these local initiatives.
