Perry’s Great Places proposal includes the creation and expansion of recreational facilities, educational opportunities that focus on the city’s diversity and cultural heritage, and a downtown revitalization plan. Central tenets of these revitalization efforts are a new streetscape that creates a more pedestrian-friendly environment and design guidelines that give downtown a unique sense of place and identity. Additionally, the Town/Craft Center that was developed to help small communities envision and create sustainable futures is a partnership between Hometown Perry Iowa, Iowa State University, and ISU College of Design. Furthermore, the transformation of a former rail yard brownfield into an interpretative center along the proposed Raccoon River Valley Trail will serve as a destination and educational facility for residents and visitors.
