Valley Junction is the historic downtown of West Des Moines with a rich railroad heritage and unique blend of arts, culture, and entrepreneurial activities.  The rehabilitation of the former City Hall into the headquarters for the Historic Valley Junction Foundation and a variety of community uses has been proposed as a part of this proposal.  Additionally, the development of a Pattern Book to create design guidelines for the older areas of West Des Moines is an attempt to promote and preserve affordable housing styles prominent in these neighborhoods.  Furthermore, a Sprinkler Control Room will provide fire-protection to numerous small businesses – lowering overhead costs and providing a service which would otherwise be cost-prohibitive.  Public art, a redesigned streetscape in the central business district, refurnished parks in low-income neighborhoods, and trail connections all serve to complete the vision for Valley Junction’s future.
