The Great Places projects of Spencer showcase this community’s unique architecture, heritage, and creative culture. Enhancements to the Grand Ave. Boulevard and bridge will draw the Art Deco patterns and details of downtown to its entryway, reinforcing the community’s unique architecture and identity. Furthermore, the history and importance of downtown Spencer’s buildings and landmarks will be conveyed through the Pathways to Information project – wayfinding and educational kiosks that will be located throughout the cultural district. Additionally, the adaptive reuse of the city’s 1914 high school will create affordable housing units in the heart of the community, while the attached auditorium will be preserved and rehabilitated. Other projects within Spencer’s proposal include the remodeling and expansion of the Spencer Community Theatre, Parker Historical Museum, and the expansion of the community’s extensive trail network.
