West Union’s Great Places projects embody a “green” theme developed to enhance the quality of life of residents, visitors, and to serve as a model for other communities.  The creation of a new streetscape and courthouse square plaza will not only enhance West Union’s downtown aesthetically but will create a more walkable, pedestrian friendly environment.  Additionally, West Union’s proposal includes plans to make the community a fully walkable and bikable community, with plans to focus on Iowa’s “Safe Routes to School” initiative.  Furthermore, the City of West Union has proposed a program to promote and educate residents on energy efficiency and “zero water run-off” practices in the private sector to truly make West Union a model “green” community.
